Ensure The Safety Of Family Photos And Documents

Have you ever been involved in a crisis situation where you’ve had to leave your home quickly? If so, we’ll be that the first thing you rushed to grab were your family photos and important documents. Hopefully, you were able to collect all of your prized possessions and if you did, you’re lucky. Many people have had to watch their family’s history go up in flames or succumb to water damage. To keep this from happening to you, you’ll want to ensure the safety of family photos and documents by following these simple tips.

Get Organized

One easy way to protect your items is to organize everything. Having all of your most important documents in an easy-to-access place will make collecting them, while in a rush, much simpler. You’ll also have the benefit of being able to find an item quickly, should you want to locate it. There’s nothing like searching through hundreds of photos and not find the one you’re looking for. If you’re not organized, you’ve probably got many other places in your house where it could be. Have fun trying to find a needle in a haystack. When you’re organized, you’ll save time and effort.

Go Digital

Let’s face it, we live in a digital world. If you don’t get with the times, you’ll be left behind. We recommend scanning and converting your family photos and important documents into digital formats. This is a great way to protect them but also a great way to preserve them. Digital files don’t deteriorate (as much) as physical copies, so you can rest easy knowing that they will be available for a long time. We’re sure you’ve got important home movies as well, so convert VHS tapes to to digital formats.

Once your documents are converted to digital, not only will you have pristine copies but it gives you spare copies of everything. These can all be stored on one external hard-drive or you can even upload them to a cloud based service like Dropbox. You can take your external hard-drive with you or you can access your files on Dropbox from any computer in the world, should you have internet access. Having spare copies will give you an extra piece of mind.

These are items that cannot be replaced. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Ensure the safety of family photos and documents so that you, your family and generations down the line can enjoy them.
